STITCH GUIDE:

Hdc= half double crochet

Dc= double crochet

PATTERN NOTES:

The first half of pattern is worked in rows, and the second half is worked in the round. Pattern indicates changes.

INSTRUCTIONS:

With Color A, ch 22.

Row 1: Dc in 6th ch from hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next ch, rep from * across, turn.

Row 2: Ch 4, *1 dc in next dc, ch 1, rep from * across, skip next ch of turning ch, dc in next ch of turning ch, turn.

Row 3 – 9: Rep Row 2. Fasten off. You should have a block of nine ch-1 sps on each side.

Pattern Note: The next section is worked in rounds.

Rnd. 1: Join Color B with sl st to any corner sp, in same sp work ( ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), in ea sp work 2 dc, in corner sp work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc); rep pattern around square, join with sl st to top of beg dc. (20 dc on each side)

Rnd. 2: Ch 3, 1 dc in each dc to corner, in corner work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), rep pattern around square, join with sl st to top of beg dc. (24 dc on each side)

Rnd. 3: Rep Rnd. 2, fasten off. (28 dc on each side)

Pattern Note: At this point there are two alternate finishings to the pattern. To finish according to the photo, then continue on as written with rounds 4 & 5. If you want a more sturdy block with no mesh around the edge, then simply repeat Rnd. 2 for rounds 4 & 5.

Rnd. 4: Join Color C with sl st to any corner sp, in same sp work (ch 3, 1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), *ch 1, sk 1 st, 1 dc in next st, rep from * to corner, ch 1, in corner work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), rep pattern around square, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (15 ch-1 sps on each side)

Rnd. 5: Ch 3, 1 dc in next dc, * in corner work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), 1 dc in each dc and ch-1 sp to next corner, rep from * around square, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. Fasten off. Weave in ends with tapestry needle. Block.
