Crochet Hook: 5mm [US H-8].
Yarn needle.
Blanket measures approximately 30″ x 30″.
GAUGE: 16 sts = 4″; 10 rows = 4″ in pattern with 2 strands of yarn held together. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
NOTE:
Hold 2 strands of yarn together as one throughout.
With MC, ch 123.
Row 1 (Right Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across; turn – 122 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sc, * ch 2, skip next 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * across; turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, * 4 dc in next ch-2 sp; rep from * to last 2 sc; skip next sc, dc in last sc; turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first 2 dc, * ch 2, skip next 2 dc, sc in next 2 dc; rep from * across working last sc in top of ch-3; turn.
Row 5: Ch 3, * 4 dc in next ch-2 sp; rep from * to last 2 sc; skip next sc, dc in last sc; turn

FINISHING–Lower Edging:
To give the foundation ch a firm edge, with right side facing, join MC with a sl st in first ch and sl st in each ch across. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Fringe:
Matching fringe color to rows, cut 10” lengths of yarn. Holding 8 strands together, fold in half, forming a loop; insert hook from wrong side of fabric into a dc row end and into the loop; draw the loop through the fabric; draw the yarn ends through the loop and tighten. Trim ends. Make tassels on both sides of afghan in every dc row.
