Supplies:

  • 6mm hook
  • Eyes 12mm (honestly could go larger for more anime look)
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Locking stitch markers
  • Bernat Blanket Yarn

Body:

Magic Loop. 7sc in loop. Mark beginning of round with locking stitch marker.

Round 2: Inc in every stitch

Round 3: *sc, inc*

Round 4: *2sc, inc*

Round 5: *3sc, inc*

Round 6: *4sc, inc*

If you want chicken to be even larger, continue pattern of increases (5sc, increase, etc)

Round 7: *In back loop only, sc* (Optional, but gives additional shape/definition to the chicken base)

Round 8: *sc*

Repeat for 9 additional rounds. Add more rounds for an even larger chicken.

Cut Yarn. Leave a tail to stitch chicken together by using a darning needle going through one loop on one side and then one loop from another side.

Sew up about halfway and fill with polyfil and place eyes two rows down and three to four stitches apart. This is not for children under 3 years of age because of the safety eyes. If you don’t want to do safety eyes, you can use yarn and embroider two vertical stitches instead.

Embroider Beak: between eyes two horizontal stripes. Tie off on the inside.

Finish stitching back seam up. Pull tightly so both ends tilt up. Hide yarn tail in the body.

Comb:

In contrasting color insert hook in head (wherever you deem the best placement is) and ch1

3 dc in first stitch (white of head)

2 (or 3) dc in second stitch.

Ch 1 slip stitch into chicken to attach back of comb to chicken. Make a knot and hide the tails
