Size: Body: 3” long and Top Wings: 3-1/4” across.

Materials: Sport Weight Yarn – 2 yards Black (MC) and 4 yards Blue Crochet Cotton Thread (size 10) (CC).

Crochet Hook: Size E and Steel Hook #7.

Gauge: Round 1 = 2″ diameter

Joining With a Sc

Begin with a slip knot on hook. Insert hook in stitch or space indicated, YO and pull up a loop, YO and draw through both lps on hook.

Body

Row 1 (right side): Starting at top of head, with Sport Weight Yarn and larger hook, ch 1 (center ch), (ch 3, sl st in center ch) twice (eyes made), ch 1, 3 sc in center ch. Mark this as right side.

Rows 2-4: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st. (3 sc)

Row 5: Ch 1, turn, draw up a lp in each of next 3 sc, YO and draw through 4 lps on hook. (1 sc)

Row 6 (Tail): Ch 2 (counts as hdc now ant throughout), turn, hdc in same st. (2 hdc)

Rows 7-10: Ch 2, turn, hdc in next hdc. (2 hdc)

At the end of Row 10 finish off.

Right Side Wings

Row 1 (Top Wing): With smaller hook and Right Side Facing, join CC with a sc, in side of Body Row 3 (A on Diagram),sc in same sp, sc in side of row 2. (3 sc) 

CH 1, TURN EACH ROW.

Rows 2-6: Sc in each st. (3 sc)

Row 7: 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc. (4 sc)

Row 8: Sc in each st. (4 sc)

Row 9: Sc dec, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st. (4 sc)

Rows 10-12: Sc in each st across.

Row 13: Sc dec twice. (2 sc)

Row 14: Sc dec. (1 sc) Sl st along sides of wing rows back to Body. Sl st in same st as wing row 1.

Lower Wing

Row 1: 2 sc in side of next row of Body, sc in side of next row.

CH 1, TURN EACH ROW.

Row 2: Sc across. (3 sc)

Row 3: Sc in first 2 sts, 2 sc in last st. (4 sc)

Rows 4-6: Sc in each st across.

Row 7: Sc dec, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st. (4 sc)

Rows 8-9: Sc in each st across.

Row 10: Sc in next 2 sts, sc dec. (3 sc)

Row 11: Draw up a lp in each of next 3 sts, YO and draw through 4 lps on hook. Finish off.

Left Side Wings

Row 1 (Top Wing): With smaller hook and Right Side Facing, join CC with a sc, in side of Body Row 3 (B on Diagram), 2 sc in side of Row 2. (3 sc) CH 1, TURN EACH ROW.

Rep Rows 2-14 of Right Wing and Rows 1-11 of Lower Wing.

At the end of Lower Wing Row 11, finish off and weave in ends.
