Pattern notes:

Beret is worked in joined rounds that begin at center of crown. Stitches are

increased, then decreased at lower edge for brim band.

Beret

Rnd 1: With 1 strand cotton held together with 1 strand ribbon, ch 4, join into

ring, ch 2, work 11 hdc in ring, join with sl st to top of beg ch-2 (12 hdc)

Rnd 2 (inc rnd): Ch 2, hdc in same st, work 2 hdc in ea hdc around, join with sl st

(24 hdc)

Rnd 3 (inc rnd): Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in

next hdc, rep from * around, join with sl st (36 hdc)

Rnd 4 (inc rnd): Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in ea of next 2 hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc,

hdc in ea of next 2 hdc, rep from * around, join with sl st (48 hdc)

Rnd 5 (inc rnd): Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in ea of next 3 hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc,

hdc in ea of next 3 hdc, rep from * around, join with sl st (60 hdc)

Rnd 6 (inc rnd): Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in ea of next 4 hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc,

hdc in ea of next 4 hdc, rep from * around, join with sl st (72 hdc)

Rnd 7: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in ea hdc around, join with sl st (72 hdc)

Rnds 8-12: Ch 2, hdc in ea hdc around, join with sl st (72 hdc)

Brim band:

Drop ladder ribbon strand and attach a second strand of cotton. Continue

working with double-strand of solid color cotton as follows:

Rnd 13: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in ea st around, join with sl st (72 sc)

Rnd 14 (dec rnd): Ch 1, sc in same sc and in next3 sc, sc next 2 sc together, *sc

in next 4 sc, sc2tog, rep from * around, join with sl st (60 sc)

Rnd 15: Ch 1, sc in ea sc around (60 sc)

Rnd 16 (dec rnd): Ch 1, sc in same sc and in next 2 sc, sc next 2 sc together, *sc

in next 3 sc, sc2tog, rep from * around, join with sl st (50 sc).

Rnd 17: Ch 1, sc in ea sc around (50 sc)

Rnd 18: Slip st loosely in ea sc around, join with sl st. Fasten off and weave in

ends.
