Worsted Weight Yarn (I used Bernat Mosaic Yarn in Optimistic)

Abbreviations

MC — Magic Circle

CH — Chain

SC — Single Crochet

DC — Double Crochet

sl st — Slip Stitch

sk st — Skip Stitch

Notes: This hat is sized for teens/small adults. For a larger hat use a bigger hook. If you want more slouch, simply work a few more of rounds 13 and 14. If you have any problems or questions, leave a comment and I will get back to you!

Pattern

Round 1: mc, ch 1, 6 sc in mc. sl st to first sc to join.

Round 2: ch 1, *2 sc in same st*, repeat ** around, sl st to first sc to join.

Round 3: ch 1, 2 sc in same st, *1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st* Repeat around.

Round 4: ch 1, 2 sc in same st, *1 sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st* Repeat around.

Round 5: ch 1, 2 sc in same st, *1 sc in next 3 st, 2 sc in next st* Repeat around.

Round 6: ch 1, 2 sc in same st, *1 sc in next 4 st, 2 sc in next st* Repeat around.

Round 7: ch 1, 1 sc in same st and each st around.

Round 8: ch 1, 2 sc in same st, *1 sc in next 5 st, 2 sc in next st* Repeat around.

Round 9: ch 1, 1 sc in same st and each st around.

Round 10: ch 1, 2 sc in same st, *1 sc in next 6 st, 2 sc in next st* Repeat around.

Round 11: ch 1, 1 sc in same st and each st around.

Round 12: ch 1, 2 sc in same st, *1 sc in next 7 st, 2 sc in next st* Repeat around.

Round 13: ch 2, 1 dc and 1 sc in same st, *sk st, 1 dc and 1 sc in next st* Repeat around. Sl st to first dc to join.

Round 14: ch 1, 1 sc and 1 dc in next st. *sk st, sc and dc in next st* Repeat around. sl st to first sc to join.

Round 15-33: Alternate rows 13 and 14 until your hat is about ____ long.
Round 34: Ch 1, sc same st and each st around.
Round 35-40: Ch 1, sc in same st and each st around.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.

I just love the texture of the sc/dc combo and switching it up every row creates this back and forth look that really catches your eye. You could make a solid colored one and it would still stand out from your average crochet hat because of the textured stitch!
