So grab your yarn, hook, and creativity, and let's crochet some Easter magic!
I used the following materials:
- 6mm hook
- Sweet Snuggles Lite in: lavender, baby green, daffodil, omphalodes, barely pink, and white
- Stitch markers
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Basket:
R1: 10 sc in a magic ring
R2: 10 increases (20)
R3: (1 sc, inc) x 10 (30)
R4: (2 sc, inc) x 10 (40)
R5-7 (3 rows): 40 sc
I recommend steam blocking it at this point so that your base is flat and does not curl up. If it still tries to curl up into a bowl shape, your tension may be too tight and you may have to do your base with a larger hook.
R8: (3 hdc, inc) x 10 in the back loop only (50)
R9: 50 hdc in-between the stitches of the previous round. (See picture for reference)
At this point, I like to hit with the steamer again. I press out the bottom of the basket with my hands while it dries so that it keeps its shape.
Change colour to yellow. Note that every hdc from here on is going to be placed in-between the stitches, not under only the «v» part of the stitch.
R10: 50 hdc
Change colour to green
R11: 50 hdc
Change colour to blue
R12: 50 hdc
Change colour to purple
R13: 50 hdc
Change colour to pink
R14: 50 hdc
Change colour to purple
R15: 50 hdc
Change colour to blue
R16: 50 hdc
Change colour to green
R17: 50 hdc
Change colour to yellow
R18: 50 hdc
Change colour to pink
R19-20 (2 rows): 50 hdc
R21: Slip stitch in each stitch around and fasten off.
Weave in all your ends.
Handle (optional):
Chain 4
In the second chain from your hook, half double crochet in each chain across (3). Chain 1 and turn your work. *3 hdc across. Chain 1, turn.*
Repeat * until the handle is as long as you wish. I did 35 rows in total. Fasten off and sew on the handle on each side of the basket, ensuring that the colour changes are centered between the handle so that it is at the back.
Tip: To add some stiffness to the basket, you can spray it with “spray starch” (that stuff used for ironing men’s dress shirts)!
