Crochet Handmade Donuts

Crochet handmade donuts are the sweetest little treats you can enjoy without the guilt of calories! Materials:

  • Size G 4mm crochet hook
  • Multiple colors acrylic worsted weight size 4 medium yarn («I Love This Yarn» from hobby lobby was used to make these donuts)
    • Light Taupe (body of donut)
    • White (frosting/glaze)
    • Any colors you'd like for the sprinkles, you will only need a little bit of each color
  • Poly-Fil
  • Scissors
  • Stitch Marker
  • Tapestry Needle

Stitches Used (US terms):

  • SS — Slip Stitch
  • CH — Chain
  • SC — Single Crochet
  • INC — Increase stitch (2 single crochets in same stitch)
  • DEC — Decrease Stitch (single crochet decrease around 2 stitches)
  • DC — Double Crochet
  • TR — Triple Crochet

Helpful Tips:

  • The «Back Bump» is the stitch found on the back side of your foundation chain. Each one will look like one little bump.
  • Each round will be worked in a continuous round, this is where your stitch marker will come in handy. You will not be slip stitching to begin a new round.
  • Final stitch count for each round will be the number noted in parentheses

Crochet Donuts Pattern — Free Crochet Pattern

Body of donut (Light Taupe)

Start with a chain of 18

SS + CH1 into first back bump making sure not to twist foundation chain

Round 1:

  • Starting in same back bump that you SS into work *1SC + INC into next stitch
    • repeat from * to end of round (27 stitches)

Round 2:

  • 1SC into every stitch (27)

Round 3:

  • *1SC into next 2 stitches + INC in next Stitch
    • repeat from * to end of round (36)

Round 4:

  • 1SC into each stitch (36)

Round 5:

  • *1SC into next 3 stitches + INC
  • repeat from * to end of round (45)

Round 6:

  • 1SC into each stitch (45)

Round 7:

  • *1SC into next 4 stitches + INC
    • repeat from * to end of round (54)

Rounds 8-14 (7 rounds total):

  • 1SC into each stitch for all 7 rounds (54 stitches per round)

Round 15:

  • *1SC into next 4 stitches + DEC
    • repeat from * to end of round (45)

Round 16:

  • 1SC into each stitch (45)

Round 17:

  • * 1SC into next 3 stitches + DEC
    • repeat from * to end of round (36)

Round 18:

  • 1SC into each stitch (36)

Round 19:

  • *1SC into next 2 stitches + DEC
    • repeat from * to end of round (27)

Round 20:

  • 1SC into each stitch (27)

Round 21:

  • *1SC + DEC
    • repeat from * to end of round (18)

Round 22:

  • 1SC into each stitch (18)
  • Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing donut closed

Glaze/Frosting (white)

Round 1-9:

  • Repeat rounds 1-9 of the body of the donut. Make sure to start your slip knot with about a 16 inch tail. This will be used

Round 10:

  • You will work this round any way you'd like by placing 3-4 DC or 3-4 TC in a stitch every 2-4 stitches. Work SC in each stitch between each cluster worked.
  • SS to first stitch and fasten off leaving a long tail. This tail will be used to sew glaze top body of donut.

Assembly:

  • Starting with the body of the donut fold the piece in half so that both ends are lined up.
  • Whip stitch around the stitches that are lined up until about 6 stitches remain.
  • Use opening left to stuff poly-fil into donut.
  • When you have fully stuffed the donut finish whip stitching around remaining stitches and secure with a couple knots
  • Place Glaze on top of the body of the donut and sew both the center of the glaze and round 10 of glaze to the donut

Sprinkles:

  • using any colors you'd like for the sprinkles follow the video above for sewing the sprinkles onto the donuts.
