Materials

• Worsted weight cotton yarn in 2 colors (I used I Love This Cotton! Yarn from Hobby Lobby in Bright Citrus and Glowing)
• 5.0 mm hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Finished hat measures approximately 7 inches long from top to bottom,10 inches across above the brim, and 12 inches across the brim

NOTE: ch 1 at the beginning of each round DOES NOT count as a sc

HAT

Starting in your main color, make a magic ring (alternatively, you can ch 3 and sl st into the first ch to form a ring)

Round 1: ch 1, work 8 sc into ring, join to top of first sc with a sl st (8 sc)

Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each stitch around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (16 sc)

Round 3: ch 1, *sc, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (24 sc)

Round 4: ch 1, *sc in 2 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (32 sc)

Round 5: ch 1, *sc in 3 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (40 sc)

Round 6: ch 1, *sc in 4 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (48 sc)

Round 7: ch 1, *sc in 5 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (56 sc)

Round 8: ch 1, *sc in 6 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (64 sc)

Round 9: ch 1, *sc in 7 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (72 sc)

Round 10: ch 1, *sc in 8 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (80 sc)

NOTE: This hat can be made in a larger size by continuing the increasing pattern

Round 11 – 24: ch 1, sc in each stitch around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (80 sc)

Change to contrasting color

Round 25 – 29: ch 1, sc in each stitch around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (80 sc)

Change to main color

Round 30: ch 1, *sc in 4 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (96 sc)

Round 31: ch 1, *sc in 5 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (112 sc)

Fasten off, weave in the ends
