Hexagram Star Dishcloth Pattern

Six point dishcloth measures: 10 inches at widest point
Hook: H (5 mm) US sized hook
All pattern directions in USA crochet terms.

Materials:
Sugar & Cream cotton yarn 2 ozs

Ch 5, Sl St to form ring. (You can also start with a magic circle.)

Rnd 1
Ch 2, (counts as 1 Hdc throughout) in ring work 2 Hdc, Ch 1. *3 Hdc in ring, Ch 1.* Repeat 5 times. Sl St to top of Ch 2. (6 corners)

Rnd 2
Sl st over to corner chain space, Ch 2 (counts as 1 Hdc), 2 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc, all in the same ch-1 corner space. *Sk next 3 Hdc (shell), 3 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc, all in the next ch 1 corner space.*
Repeat between *. Sl St to top of the beginning Ch 2.

(Finish off center color at this point for dishcloth shown and start new color on round 3 in any ch-1 corner space.)

Rnd 3-4
Join yarn in any ch-1 space with new color. Ch 2, 2 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc, all in the corner space. *Sk 3 Hdc, make 3 Hdc in between shells. In next corner point work 3 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc all in corner sp.* Repeat between * around and join with a Sl St to top of Ch 2.

Don’t worry that the dishcloth is ruffled; it will flatten out as you crochet the additional rounds.

Rnd 5
Sl st over to corner space. Ch 2, 2 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc, all in the corner space. *Work 1 Hdc in space between shells then work 3 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc in each corner space.* *Repeat between * around and join with a Sl St to top of Ch 2. (There are 3 separate Hdc’s between corners.)

Rnd 6
Sl st over to corner space. Ch 2, 2 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc, all in the corner space. *Work 1 Hdc in space between shells/Hdc’s of prior round then work 3 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc in each corner space.* *Repeat between * around and join with a Sl St to top of Ch 2. (There are 4 separate Hdc’s between corners.)

Rnd 7
Change color as in this blue trimmed dishcloth if desired.
Sl st over to corner space. Ch 2, 2 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc, all in the corner space. *Work 3 Hdc (shell) in space after the corner. Skip 1 space between Hdc’s and work 3 Hdc in next space between Hdc’s, Sk next space and 3 Hdc in space between Hdc’s (just before corner), then 3 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc in next corner space.*
*Repeat between * around keeping in pattern and join with a Sl St to top of Ch 2. (There are 3 shells between each corner.)

Rnd 8
Sl st over to corner space. Ch 2, 2 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc, all in the corner space. *Work 3 Hdc (shell) in space between each shell of prior round. Work 3 Hdc, Ch 1, 3 Hdc in each corner space.*
*Repeat between * around keeping in pattern and join with a Sl St to top of Ch 2. (There are 4 shells between each corner.

Rnd 9 (Edging)
Attach contrasting cotton yarn if desired and in any ch 1 corner space. Work 3 Sc in ea corner space and 1 Sc in ea st around evenly. Join with a slip stitch to beg Sc.

Tip: Skip the center most Sc stitch on each side of the dishcloth to better define the star shape.

Flatten and form dishcloth by stretching the points out and pressing down at center.
