Gauge: 14 hhdc x 11 rows = 4 in/10 cm
Size: Approx 7.5" wide x 8.25" tall excluding handle
Handle measures approx 47" laid flat before sewing
SPECIAL STITCHES:
Psc (picot single crochet): Insert the hook in the next st, yo and pull up a loop. [Yo and pull through 1 loop] 10 times. Yo and pull through both loops on the hook. Push ch 11 to the back (inside) of the fabric when working the next st. Adjust the number of chains to fit your specific button if needed.
NOTES:
The bag portion of this pattern begins with a Row, and then switches to Rounds. The handle is made in Rows.
Feel free to substitute handle styles, using purchased handles or changing the length to suit your needs. Adjust to fit before sewing them on.
CASUAL CROCHET CROSSBODY BAG INSTRUCTIONS:
BOTTOM OF BAG:
Row 1: Ch 24, skip the ch closest to the hook, hhdc in each rem ch across; turn. (23 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, hhdc in each st across, hhdc in the side of the previous st, hhdc in each foundation chain, hhdc in the side of the previous st; join with sl st.(48 sts)
Rnds 3 — 21: Ch 1, hhdc in each st around; join. Do not break yarn. (Piece should measure approx. 7.25" tall at this point — exact row count doesn't really matter.)
TOP OF BAG:
Rnd 1: Ch 1, blo sc in first st, ch 1, skip the next st, blo sc in the next 10 sts, ch 3, skip the next 3 sts, blo sc in the next 10 sts, ch 1, skip the next st, blo sc in the next 11 sts, blo psc in next st, blo sc in each rem st; join. (42 sc, 1 psc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st, sc in both ch-1 sps and each ch of the ch-3 (OR IF PREFERRED work 3 sc in the ch-3 sp); join.(48 sc)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in each st around; break yarn and seamless join.
BAG HANDLE:
Row 1: Leaving a 10" tail for sewing, ch 151 (or to desired length), skip the ch closest to the hook, sl st in each rem ch across; turn. (150 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, flo sl st in each st across; break yarn leaving a 10" tail for sewing, turn.
Row 3: Leaving a 10" tail for sewing, join to first st with flo sl st, flo sl st in each st across; break yarn leaving a 10" tail for sewing.
ASSEMBLY:
Step 1: Sew button to bag directly below the ch-3 sp.
Step 2: Add the handle, threading each end through the ch-1 holes in the Top of Bag, from the outside in. Adjust length to suit as needed. Use the long tails to sew the ends to the inside of the handle, as shown.
