Materials

  • #5 bulky weight 400 yards (can use #4 worsted to substitute)
  • 5 & 6 mm hook (if using worsted weight use 4 & 5 mm hooks)
  • Scissors

Bag size: 12 x 10.5 inches

Gauge: 

  • 7 Sc st = 4in
  • 12 rows = 4 in


Stitches

  • Sl st- Slip Stitch
  • Ch- Chain
  • Sc- Single Crochet
  • Sc2tog – Single Crochet 2 Together
  • Blsc- Back Loop Single Crochet
  • Blsc2tog – Back Loop Single Crochet 2 Together

Notes: Ch 1 does not count as a stitch throughout pattern.


6 mm hook (5 mm if using worsted weight), Ch 60

Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook, sc in each st across, turn. (59) 19 inches

Row 2: Ch 1, 2 blsc in the first st, blsc in each st across, turn. (60) 

Row 3: Ch 1, Sc in each st across, 2 sc in the last st, turn. (61)

Row 4-11: Rep rows 2-3 four times. (69)

Row 12: Ch 1, blsc in each st across, turn. (69) 

Row 13: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 14-27: Rep rows 12-13 seven times. 

Row 28: Ch 1, blsc2tog, blsc in each st across, turn. (68) 

Row 29: Ch 1, Sc in each st across excluding last two stitches, sc2tog in the last two stitches, turn. (67) 

Rows 30-37: Rep rows 28-29 four times. (59)

Row 38: Ch 1, Blsc in each st across. 

Edging: Evenly sc down the side of your work (1 sc per row), continue to sc evenly along the bottom of the work, then evenly sc up the other side of your work and back across the top to where you started. Fasten off. 

Assembly

Fold purse according to picture.

Begin sewing seam at the 6th stitch from the corner. 

*Optional: Once attached, use a contrasting color for purse flap border. 


Handle 

5mm Hook (4 mm if using worsted weight). Make a chain that is 35 inches.

Row 1: Sc starting in the 2nd ch from the hook until the last st, 2 sc in the last st. Flip your chain upside down. You will be working underneath original chain. Sc until the last st, 2 sc in the last st, fasten off.


(Handle) Surface slip stitch

Working along the surface of your handle, sl st down the center. You will be using the holes left from placing single crochet on both sides of the chain.

Attach the wrong sides of your handle to the top corners of your purse. Then turn your purse right side out and enjoy!
