GAUGE: 8 sts and 16 rows in sc = 4” (10 cm). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Directions are given for adult size Small. Changes for Large are in parentheses.

Hat measures 26 (30)” (71 [76] cm) in circumference.

HAT

Ch 4; join with a slip st in first ch to form ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring, do not join — 8 sc. Work in a spiral, marking be of each round moving marker up as work progresses.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around – 16 sc.

Round 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 24 sc.

Round 4: *Sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 32 sc

Round 5: *Sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 40 sc.

Round 6: *Sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 48 sts.

Round 7: *Sc in each of next 11 (5) sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 52 (56) sc.

Size L Only

Round 8: *Sc in each of next 13 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around – 60 sc.

Both Sizes

Rounds 8-21 (9-21): Sc in each st around – 52 (60) sc.

Brim

Round 22: Ch 2 (counts as dc), dc in each st around; join with a slip st in top of beg ch-2 – 52 (60) dc.

Round 23: Repeat Row 22.

Round 24: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with a slip st in first sc – 52 (60) sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Weave in ends. Roll up brim.
