Crochet All-Season Shawl

Materials

For spring/summer: 2 balls of Aunt Lydia’s Denim

For fall/winter: About 18-24 oz. “soft” worsted weight acrylic or chenille

Crochet hook size H

Gauge is not important. You can adjust the finished size by adding or

subtracting pattern rows. My finished size using the Denim is about 65"

across the top and 35" from the bottom tip to the center of the top.

Starting at the bottom point of the shawl, ch 2

Row 1: (Sc, dc, sc) in the 2nd ch from hook; ch 1, turn. (3 sts)

Row 2: (Hdc, dc) in the first sc, sc in the next dc, (dc, hdc) in the last sc; ch

1, turn. (5 sts)

Row 3: (Hdc, dc) in the first hdc, (sc in each dc and dc in each sc) across,

(dc, hdc) in the last hdc; ch 1, turn. (7 sts)

Rows 4-85: Repeat row 3. There should be 171 stitches at the end of row

85. Do not ch 1or turn at the end of row .

Edging

Row 1: Working along the side of the shawl, sc around the post of the last

hdc, (ch 3, skip next ch-1, sc around the post of the next hdc) 41 times, ch

3, sc in the base of the first ch at the tip of the shawl, ch 5, sc in the same

st, (ch 3, skip next ch-1, sc around the post of the next hdc) 42 times, sc in

the next ch 1; ch 1, turn. (84 ch-3 spaces plus one ch-5 space at the bottom

tip)

Row 2: Sc in the first sc, (5 dc shell in the next ch 3 sp, sc in the next ch 3

sp) 21 times, 7 dc shell in the next ch 5 sp, sc in the next ch 3 sp, (5 dc

shell in the next ch 3 sp, sc in the next ch 3 sp) 20 times, 5 dc shell in the

next ch 3 sp, sc in the next hdc; ch 1, turn. (43 shells)

Row 3: Insert hook in first sc and pull up a loop, insert hook in next dc and

pull up a loop, yo and pull through all 3 remaining loops on hook, (2 dc in

each of the next 3 dc, insert hook in next dc and pull up a loop, insert hook

in next sc and pull up a loop, insert hook in next dc and pull up a loop, yo

and pull throuh all 4 remaining loops on hook) 21 times, 2 dc in each of the

next 5 dc, (insert hook in next dc and pull up a loop, insert hook in next sc

and pull up a loop, insert hook in next dc and pull up a loop, yo and pull

through all 4 remaining loops on hook, 2 dc in each of the next 3 dc) 21

times, insert hook in next dc and pull up a loop, insert hook in next sc and

pull up a loop, yo and pull through all 3 remaining loops on hook; ch 1, do

not turn, sc in the sides of the sc’s in each of the 3 edging rows, sc in each

of the 171 sts across the top of the shawl, sc in the sides of the sc’s in each

of the 3 edging rows; join with a sl st to the first dc. Fasten off. Weave in

ends.
