GAUGE: 3 sts make 1 inch; 3 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at straight edge, make a chain 12 inches long. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until row measures 8 inches, having an uneven number of sc. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: Tr in first sc, * sc in next sc, tr in next sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: 2 sc in first st, sc in each st across, 2 sc in last st. Ch 2, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece measures 6 inches. Work in pattern without increasing for 3 more inches. Now dec 1 sc at beginning and end of each sc row until piece measures 14½ inches, ending with a tr row—to dec 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc. Break off.

BORDER1st rnd: Attach yarn to top of piece and sc closely around, making 3 sc in each corner at top edge. 2nd, 3rd and 4th rnds: Sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in center sc at each corner. 5th rnd: * Ch 3, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. Make a chain 75 inches long and lace through ch-3 loops.
