Crochet Adorable Earwarmer

Crocheting an adorable earwarmer is such a fulfilling and cozy project to take on! Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned crocheter, creating a snug ear accessory can be both soothing and practical. From choosing your favorite yarn colors to adding cute embellishments like buttons or bows, there's a world of creativity waiting for you in every stitch. Plus, once you complete your handmade earwarmer, you'll have a warm and stylish accessory to keep you cozy during chilly days. So, grab your crochet hook, pick out some delightful yarn, and let's craft a fabulous earwarmer together!

You will need:

  • 5 mm and 3 mm crochet hooks
  • recommended for the bigger hook yarn of the main colour (I have grey) and yarn of a different colour matching the smaller hook (I took mixed colour, mostly blue)
  • scissors

Abbreviations:

  • ch – chain
  • st – stitch
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • FPtrc – front post treble crochet (US crochet terms)
  • exFPtrc – extended front post treble crochet (US crochet terms),

The Pattern:

Start with the main colour and 5 mm hook: 99 ch, join with sl st, 2 ch.
Finish every round with sl st and start a new one with 2 ch.
Round 1: dc in all ch (99)
Rounds 2- 6: (dc in next 3 st, exFPtrc in dc under next 3 st) X 33 (99)

Take care that every second round is inverse previous round: you always crochet dc over exFPtrc and the other way around. That will live you a “chess bord” ornament.

Now we make the ears:

Note, that here we don’t make sl st and 2 ch to change a round.
Round 7: 16 sl st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next st, FPtrc in next st, exFPtrc in next 4 st, FPtrc in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in next st.

Turn the earwarmer around and move to the opposite direction now.
Round 8: sc in next st, dc in next 5 st, 2 dc together in next st, dc in next 5 st, sc in next st, sl st in back loop of the next st. Fasten off, cut the yarn. The first ear is finished.
Count 28 st to the other direction from the first st of round 7. Here we start crocheting the second ear. Repeat Rounds 7-8.

The ears are finished!
