Crochet Amigurumi Octopus

Material:-

  • Worsted-weight yarn, Light Blue, Pink & White colour
  • F/5 3.75mm crochet hook
  • Poly-Fil or any stuffing of your choice
  • Yarn needle
  • Two 7.5mm plastic safety eyes

Abbreviation Key:-

  • sc = single crochet
  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • dec = decrease (join next 2 sts in to 1)
  • inc = increase (2 sc in nesxt st)
  • BLO = back loop only
  • FLO = front loop only

Notes:-

  • This crochet Octopus are my design, just keep a consistent tension throughout the entire project.
  • Crochet in a spiral. Use something to mark the first stitch of a round, and move it up as you work.
  • «The Magic Circle» is use to start each piece. Alternative techique: ch 2, then sc x6 into the second chain away from the hook. Slip stitch to join the round. This creates Round 1.

Octopus's head:-

Use Light Blue colour yarn.

Round 1: Magic Circle with a base of 6 stitches

Round 2: inc x 6 = 12 sts

Round 3: ( 1 inc, 1 sc ) x 6 = 18 sts

Round 4: ( 1 inc, 2 sc ) x 6 = 24 sts

Round 5: ( 1 inc, 3 sc ) x 6 = 30 sts

Round 6: ( 1 inc, 4 sc ) x 6 = 36 sts

Round 7: sc in the next 36 stitches = 36 sts

Round 8: ( 1 inc, 5 sc ) x 6 = 42 sts

Round 9~12: sc in the next 42 stitches = 42 sts

Round 13: ( 1 dec, 5 sc ) x 6 = 36 sts

Round 14: sc in the next 36 stitches = 36 sts

Round 15: ( 1 dec, 4 sc ) x 6 = 30 sts

Round 16: ( 1 dec, 3 sc ) x 6 = 24 sts

*insert the Plastic Safety Eyes between Round 12 & 13 and attach washers. Eyes should be about 6 stitches apart.

Round 17: ( 1 dec, 2 sc ) x 6 = 18 sts

Round 18: Fasten off & leave 12 inch tail.

Octopus's tentacles:-
Use Light Blue colour yarn.
Round 1: Magic Circle with a base of 6 stitches
Round 2: inc x 6 = 12 sts
Round 3: ( 1 inc, 1 sc ) x 6 = 18 sts
Round 4~6: sc in the next 18 stitches = 18 sts
Round 7: ( 1 dec, 4 sc ) x 3 = 15 sts
Round 8: sc in the next 15 stitches = 15 sts
Round 9: ( 1 dec, 3 sc ) x 3 = 12 sts
Round 10: sc in the next 12 stitches = 12 sts
Round 11: (1 dec, 2 sc ) x 3 = 9 sts
Round 12: sc in the next 9 stitches = 9 sts
Round 13: ( 1 dec, 1 sc ) x 3 = 6 sts
Round 14: sc in the next 6 stitches = 6 sts
Round 15: fasten up & hide the tail.

Octopus's bottom part:-
Use Light Blue colour yarn.
Round 1: Magic Circle with a base of 6 stitches
Round 2: inc x 6 = 12 sts
Round 3: ( 1 inc, 1 sc ) x 6 = 18 sts
Round 4: Fasten off & leave 18 inch tail for sewing

Sailor hat:-
Use White colour yarn.
Round 1: Magic Circle with a base of 6 stitches
Round 2: inc x 6 = 12 sts
Round 3: ( 1 inc, 1 sc ) x 6 = 18 sts
Round 4: ( 1 inc, 2 sc ) x 6 = 24 sts
Round 5: ( 1 inc, 3 sc ) x 6 = 30 sts
Round 6: ( 1 inc, 4 sc ) x 6 = 36 sts
Round 7: sc in the next 36 stitches = 36 sts
Round 8: ( 1 inc, 5 sc ) x 6 = 42 sts
Round 9~11: sc in the next 42 stitches = 42 sts

* Turn the Hat Upside down & Inside out ( crochet it way back )
Round 12: sc FLO in the next 42 stitches = 42 sts
Round 13: sc in the next 42 sts
Round 14: ( 1 inc, 6 sc ) x 6 = 48 sts
Round 15: sc in the next 48 stitches = 48 sts
Round 16: Fasten off & hidethe tail
*Crochet around Pink colour line in between Round 15 & 16.
