How tocrochet a sun hat

Section 1 – Crown

  • The pattern is made in BLO throughout!
  • For all sizes, simply skip when your size 1s instructed.

Round 1: In a magic Ring, ch 2 (does not

count as a stitch), 12 hdc in magic ring, join.

  • Crocheting in BLO from here on.
  • Place the stitch marker on the last stitch and move it after every round; there is no need to join.

Round 2: 2 hdc in each around. 24 hdc

Round 3: *hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, repeat from * around. 36 hdc

Round 4: *hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next,

repeat from * around. 48 hdc

Round 5: *hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next, repeat from * around. 60 hdc

Infant Size alone – The diameter should be

about 3.25”, skip to the body.

  2. Measure and cut out the required wire/fishing line, add about 3”.

To keep the Hat firm/in shape.

Wrap duct tape around the first and last 1” (to prevent this part from injuring you).

Note:

  1. If adding wire or fishing line, work over the wire or fishing line while working the next round.
  2. If skipping wire/fishing line, just work a round of sc.

Round 9 (9, 9, 11, 11): Ch 1, sc in each st across the brim, join with a sl st to the beginning ch. 120 (144, 168, 192, 216) sc

Fasten off.

Finishing

For both Types (with Wire/Fishing Line and without)

Round 10 (10, 10, 12, 12): Ch 1, crab stitch around, join with a sl st to the beginning chain.

Fasten off.

How to Apply Starch to Your Hat;

  • Prepare the Starch accordingly and apply to your hat.
  • Shape your hat appropriately.
  • Allow to dry.
  • If using a cotton blend, you can set the oven to 180° with a bowl in the body of the hat to keep it in shape and bake for 25 minutes, allow the hat to dry and set it before removing it from the oven.
