Skill LEVEL – intermediate
–while it is a basic pattern, I explain how to complete a task at times, rather than walk the crocheter through each stitch count. You also need to be familiar with changing yarn colours and tapestry or jacquard crochet.
Materials
Hook: I used a size 3.5 (primarily because I lost my 4 and lent out my 5!). It really does not matter as long as your stitches are tight enough to prevent stuffing from coming through the holes.
Yarn: Green and black medium worsted weight yarn for the main pattern; other shades of green for embroidery if desired

rd= round
ch = chain
st- stitch
sc= single crochet
sc3tog = single crochet 3 stitches together to create 1 stitch
hdc = half double crochet
hdc3tog = half double crochet in 3 stitches to create 1 stitch.
sl st = slip stitch
Techniques
This is made using both rows and rounds with sc and hdc. The head is completed using jacquard crochet. Tapestry crochet would also work. There are many youtube tutorials if you are unfamiliar with these techniques. Alternatively, you can choose to crochet in green and embroider the facial features in black. You will also need to decrease 3 stitches together, rather than the traditional 2.
Head:

Green = G; Black = B
Begin by working in rows.
Row 1: (G) ch 17, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in ea st across (16)
Row 2: (G) ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across (16)
EYES: Row 3 – 6: (G) ch 1, turn, sc in next 2 sc (B) sc in 4 sc (G) sc in 4 sc (B) sc in 4 sc (G) sc in 2 sc (16)
NOSE: Row 7-8: (G), ch 1, turn, sc in next 6 sc (B) sc in 4 sc (G) sc n 6 sc (16)
MOUTH: Row 9-12: (G) ch 1, turn, sc in 4 sc (B) sc in 8 sc (G) sc in 4 sc (16)
FROWN: Row 13-14: (G) ch 1, turn, sc in 4 sc (B) sc in 2 sc (G) sc in 4 sc (B) sc in 2 sc (G) sc in 4 sc (16)
Fasten off the black and continue working in Green.
You will now switch to working in Rounds in order to give your head dimension.
Rd 1: working in back loops only, sc around the entire head. *Note, along the edges, find a back bump to crochet in. Although there are 14 rows, you should be able to stitch 16 sc into each side. (64)
Rd 2-7: Working in both loops, hdc around (64) — NOTE – you may increase the number of rounds until you are satisfied with the shape of your head.
Rd 8-12: (do more if rds if needed:
Decrease your cube until it is almost closed:
To decrease your cube, hdc until you are 1 or 2 st away from the corner. When you are near the corner of the previous round, hdc3tog – this will create a corner on your round while decreasing the total number of stitches. Continue decreasing each corner until you are ready to sew your head shut. If one side is 4 st, and the next is 3 st- do not worry. It will not change the shape as long as you keep 4 distinct corners generally lined up. Stuff firmly, sl st and fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Sew shut.
Optional: in different shades of green, embroider squares on the face. You may choose to do this all over the body as well. I kept mine minimal to complete my creeper quickly.
BODY:
Working in continuous rounds, in green and with sc:
Rd 1: ch 2, 4 sc in 2nd ch from hk (4)
Rd 2: 3 sc in each sc around (12)
Rd 3: 1 sc, (3sc in next st, sc in 2 sc)x3; 3 sc in last st (20)
Rd 4: sc in 2(3sc in next st, sc in 4)3x; 3sc in next st, sc in 2 (28)
Rd 5: sc in 3 (3sc in next st, sc in 6)3x; 3sc in next st, sc in 3 (36)
Rd 6: sc in 4 (3sc in next st, sc in 8)3x; 3 sc in next st, sc in 4 (44)
Rd 7: in back loops only, sc around (44)
Rd 8-15: in both loops, sc around (44)
DECREASE YOUR CUBE — follow the same technique to decrease your cube as you did for the face – by sc down the side and sc3tog in each corner until your body is ready to be closed. Each rd will have less sc in each side. This should take approx 6 rounds (the reverse of the increase). Stuff firmly and fasten, leaving a tail to sew. Sew shut.
The narrower side of your body will be the front. Sew body to bottom of head.
LEGS: Make 4
Rd 1-4: Start in black and follow rounds 1-4 of the body in sc. (28)
Rd 5: Attach green (fasten off black) sc in back loops only (28)
Rd6-8: sc around (28)
Rd 9-10: decrease by sc along sides and sc3tog at corners. This will leave an opening, which you do not need to close.
Sl st and fasten off, leaving an end for sewing, Stuff and sew onto the bottom of the body.
Sew in any loose ends.
