  • Tapestry Needle; 1 Button (0.6″/1.5cm);

Camel Single Crochet (camel sc)

Insert hook in the next st, but not through the front OR back loop, but instead an extra loop that is behind the st. YO, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook). YO, and pull through 2 loops on hook.

Skill Level

This is an “Easy” level crochet pattern. You must be familiar with basic crochet stitches and techniques. Directions written so that they are easy to read and follow. All patterns are in English, and written in standard US terms.

PATTERN

Note: This satchel is worked in the round, from bottom to top. The button flap and strap is worked in the row, and seamed to the satchel.

BODY

Ch30 using “Light Ice Blue” yarn and 5.0mm hook.

Rnd 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in next 27 sts. 5 sc in next st. (Note: You are now going to be working on the opposite side of foundation chain.) 1 sc in next 27 sts. 4 sc in last st. Join with sl st in 1st sc. (64 sts)

Rnd 2: Ch1, 1 sc in same st. 1 sc in next 28 sts. 2 sc in next 3 sts. 1 sc in next 29 sts. 2 sc in next 3 sts. Join with sl st in 1st sc. (70 sts)

Rnd 3: Ch1, 1 sc in the same st, but only through the back loop. (Note: Continue crocheting the sts in this rnd, only in the back loop.) 1 sc in next 69 sts. Do not sl st in 1st sc of this rnd. (70 sts)

Rnd 4 – 29: Start crocheting in 1st st from the previous rnd. 1 camel sc in next 70 sts. Do not sl st in 1 st st of this rnd.

Rnd 30 – 41: Change yarn colour to ‘Off White’. Start crocheting in 1st st from the previous rnd. 1 camel sc in next 70 sts. Do not sl st in 1st st of this rnd.

Rnd 42: Start crocheting in 1st st from the previous rnd. 1 camel sc in next 70 sts. Join with sl st in 1st st.

Fasten off, weave in loose ends.

FLAP

Ch30 using “Off White” yarn and 5.0mm hook.

Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in next 28 sts. Turn your work. (29 sts)

Row 2: 1 sl st in next 29 sts. Turn your work.

Row 3: Ch1, 1 camel sc in same st. 1 camel sc in next 28 sts.

Row 4 – 14: Repeat rows 2 – 3.

Row 15: Ch1, 1 camel sc in same st. 1 camel sc in next 13 sts. Ch1, skip 1 st (creates button hole), 1 camel sc in next 14 sts.

Row 16 – 17: Repeat rows 2 – 3.

Fasten off, weave in loose ends.

Taking your tapestry needle, sew the bottom of the flap (row 1), to the top of the body (rnd 42), in the middle. (Note: Make sure the textured side is the side showing up.) Sew the shank button onto the satchel bag, beneath the button hole.

CAMERA LENS

Ch2 using “Black” yarn and 5.0mm hook.

Row 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st in 1st st. (6 sts)

Rnd 2: Ch1, 2 sc in same st. 2 sc in next 5 sts. Join with sl st in 1st st. (12 sts)

Rnd 3: Ch1, 2 sc in same st. *1 sc in next st. 2 sc in next st. Repeat from the * all around. Join with sl st in 1st st. (18 sts)

Rnd 4: Ch1, 2 sc in same st. *1 sc in next 2 sts. 2 sc in next st. Repeat from the * all around. Join with sl st in 1st st. (24 sts)

Rnd 5: Ch1, 2 sc in same st. *1 sc in next 3 sts. 2 sc in next st. Repeat from the * all around. (Change yarn colour to cream when crocheting into stitches 6 – 12, before changing the yarn colour back to black for the rest of the rnd.) Join with sl st in 1st st. (30 sts)

Rnd 6: Ch1, 2 sc in same st. *1 sc in next 4 sts. 2 sc in next st. Repeat from the * all around. Join with sl st in 1st st. (36 sts)

Rnd 7: Ch1, 2 sc in same st. *1 sc in next 5 sts. 2 sc in next st. Repeat from the * all around. Join with sl st in 1st st. (42 sts)

Rnd 8: Ch1, 2 sc in same st. *1 sc in next 6 sts. 2 sc in next st. Repeat from the * all around. Join with sl st in 1st st. (48 sts)

Rnd 9: Ch1, 1 sc in same st. 1 sc in next 47 sts. Join with sl st in 1st st.

Fasten off, weave in loose ends.

Sew the camera lens embellishment onto the front of the satchel bag.

SHOULDER STRAP

Ch6 using “Light Ice Blue” yarn and 5.0mm hook.

Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in next 4 sts. Turn your work. (5 sts)

Row 2 – 108: Ch1, 1 sc in same st. 1 sc in next 4 sts. Turn your work.

Fasten off, weave in loose ends.

Sew both ends of the strap on the inside of the bag, one on either side.
