My First Bunny Crochet Pattern

This Crochet Bunny is a delightful and cuddly DIY project perfect for beginners! By following a simple pattern, you can create a soft and adorable bunny using chunky yarn and a hook. RED HEART® “Baby Econo”: 1 skein each 1982 Rainbow Sherbet Multi A and 1722 Lt Pink B.

Crochet Hook: 3.75mm [F-5].

Small amount of pearl cotton in blue and dk grey, polyester fiberfill stuffing, yarn needle.

Bunny measures 11½” tall.

GAUGE: 4 sc = 1”; 4 rounds = 1”. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

BUNNY

Head and Body: Beginning at top of head with A, ch 2.

Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook – 6 sc.

Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc.

Round 3: [Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in each of next 3 sc] 2 times – 18 sc.

Round 4: [Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around – 24 sc.

Round 5: Sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in each of next 3 sc, sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc in each of next 3 sc, sc in remaining 3 sc – 30 sc.

Round 6: Sc in each sc around.

Round 7: [Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around – 36 sc.

Rounds 8 – 17: Sc in each sc around.

Round 18: [Sc in next sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc] around – 24 sc.

Round 19: [Sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc] around – 18 sc.

Round 20: Sc in each sc around.

Round 21: [Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] around – 27 sc.

Rounds 22 – 33: Sc in each sc around.

Rounds 34 & 35: [Sc in next sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc] around – 12 sc after Round 35. Stuff.

Round 36: Sc2tog around – 6 sc. Draw remaining sts together and secure. Embroider satin st eyes with blue pearl cotton and satin st nose and straight st mouth with grey.

Ear (make 2): With A, ch 2.

Rounds 1 – 3: Repeat Rounds 1 – 3 of head – 18 sc.

Rounds 4 – 11: Sc in each sc around. Fasten off. Stuff ear very lightly. Fold bottom of ear in half and sew tog through all thicknesses. Sew in place on top of head.

Leg (make 2): With A, ch 2.

Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc.

Round 3: [Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] around – 18 sc.

Rounds 4 – 7: Sc in each sc around.

Round 8: [Sc2tog over next 2 sc] 3 times, sc in remaining 12 sc – 15 sc.

Rounds 9 – 11: Sc in each sc around. Fasten off. Stuff and sew in place.

Arm (make 2): With A, ch 2.

Round 1: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook – 5 sc.

Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around – 10 sc.

Round 3: [Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] around – 15 sc.

Rounds 4 – 9: Sc in each sc around. Fasten off. Stuff and sew in place.

Tail: With A, make a pompon by wrapping yarn around a 2” piece of cardboard 40 times. Slide off and tie tightly at center of loops. Cut loops and trim. Sew in place.

Sweater: With B, ch 11.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each remaining ch across, ch 1, turn – 10 sc.

Rows 2 – 6: Working in back loops only, sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.

Row 7: Working in back loops only, sc in next 2 sc, ch 5, skip 5 sc (armhole made), sc in back loops of remaining 3 sc, ch 1, turn.

Row 8: Working in back loops only, sc across in each sc and ch across, ch 1, turn – 10 sc.

Rows 9 – 18: Working in back loops only, sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.

Row 19: Repeat Row 7.

Row 20: Repeat Row 8.

Rows 21 – 25: Repeat Row 9. Fasten off.

Armhole Trim:

Round 1: Join B, work 14 sc around armhole opening.

Round 2: Sc in next sc, *ch 1, sc in next sc; repeat from * around. Fasten off. Repeat on other armhole.

Bottom Trim:

Row 1: Join B, work 25 sc across bottom of sweater, ch 1, turn.

Row 2: *Slip st in sc, ch 3; repeat from * around, ending with slip st in last sc. Put sweater on bunny with opening in back and sew back seam. Weave in ends.
