Size:Average Adult Woman's Head

Gauge: 4 HDC x 3 rows = 2"

Materials:

--1 skein Bernat Softee Chunky Yarn (or your fav #6 super bulky yarn); doesn't not use whole skein

--10-20 yds of #4 worsted weight yarn in white (or your color of choice)

--10.0mm hook

--tapestry needle for weaving

U.S. Stitch Abbreviations:

Ch: chain

Sl st: slip stitch

St: stitch(es)

SC: single crochet

HDC: half double crochet

Rep: repeat

BLO: back loops only

MR: magic ring

FO: fasten off

Special Note:

1. If you work in the round, then use a stitch marker to keep track of the beginning/ending of rounds and move the stitch marker up as you start each new round;

2. If joining each round, then slip stitch to first stitch and Ch1 at the end of each round.

3. If you want to make for a child, preteen/teen, then after completing step #3, start measure the diameter and multiply it by 3.14 to determine the circumference; once you have the diameter you need, then stop increasing rounds and move on to just completing rounds with 1 HDC per stitch.

4. Measure length to as you go to get the right length you desire for a smaller-sized version.

Directions:

1. 10 HDC st into MR. (10)

2. 2 HDC in each st around. (20)

3. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next st. Rep around. (30)

4. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 2 st. Rep around. (40)

5. 2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 3 st. Rep around. (50)

6. 1 HDC in each st around. (50)

7-12. Rep #6. At the end of Round 12, FO gray yarn and join white. (50)

13. With white yarn, held double-stranded, working in BLO, 1 SC in each st around. FO white yarn and re-join gray yarn. (50)

14. Join gray yarn in any st and SC around. (50)

15. 1 SC in each st around. FO and weave ends. (50

Pompom:

I held gray and white yarn together and wrapped 20 times around my 4 fingers. Tied double knot in center, clipped and trimmed ends and attached to center top of hat.
