Crochet Double Stitch Cowl

Materials:
- YARN:
- #3 DK Weight, 150 (180, 210) total yards; Tippy Tree Yarns Super DK – 100% Superwash Merino Wool; 231 yds/100 g or We Crochet Gloss DK; 123 yds/50 g or suitable substitute
- TOOLS:
- US Size (H/8) 5.0 mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
- Yarn Needle, Scissors, Blocking Materials (optional)
Gauge:
- 18 sts (dc and chs) x 8 rounds = 4”/10 cm of stitch pattern
Size:
- Small (Medium, Large) – Top circumference = 19 (20, 21)”/48 (51, 53) cm; Bottom Circumference = 28 (29, 30)”/ 71 (73.5, 76) cm; Height 9 (9, 9)”/23 (23, 23) cm
Stitches/Abbreviations: US Terms
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sts – stitches
- sp – space
- sk – skip
- sc – single crochet
- dc – double crochet
- fsc – foundation single crochet
- Special Stitch: beginning double crochet (beg dc) = do not ch to start (unless noted in pattern), sc in first st, sc in left vertical bar of sc just made (aka – stacked single crochet)
Notes:
- This cowl is worked from the top down.
- This is worked in TURNED rounds.
- When joining each round, join to the first st in the round with a sl st.
- Brackets [ ] indicate to work the inside instructions for a specific number of times.
Instructions – Simplistic Cowl:
S (M, L)
Ch 84 (92, 100) or in a multiple of 4, join to first ch.
Alternatively, a foundation single crochet round can be substituted for the foundation chain and round 1.
Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around, join, TURN. 84 (92, 100) sts
Round 2: Beg dc in first, dc in next, ch 2, sk 2, *dc in next 2, ch 2, sk 2; repeat from * around, join, turn. 42 (46, 50) dc, 21 (23, 25) ch-2 sps
Rounds 3-11: Beg dc in first ch-2 sp, dc in same sp, ch 2, sk 2, *2 dc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, sk 2; repeat from * around, join, turn.
If you want more fabric/height to the cowl, work more repeats of Round 3 before continuing to the Increase Rounds.
