Materials

Caron Wintuk worsted weight yarn in two colors (A= main color, B=contrast color)

Crochet hook size G, or size needed to achieve gauge

Gauge: Rounds 1-4= 3 1/4” across widest point

Finished size: 6” or 7”

With color B, ch 4; join with a sl st to the 1st ch to form ring.

Round 1: Work 8 sc in the ring; join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off

color B.

Round 2: Join color A with a sc in any sc, ch 5, sc in the same st, ch 1, skip

next sc, *(sc, ch 5, sc) in the next sc, ch 1, skip next sc* Repeat from * to *

2 times; join with a sl t to the first sc.

Round 3: Sl st into the first ch 5 sp, ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 4

more dc in the same sp, ch 3, (5 dc in the next ch 5 sp, ch 3) 3 times; join

with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. Fasten off color A.

Round 4: Join color B with a sl st to the first dc of any 5 dc group, ch 3 to

count as the first dc, dc in the next dc, 3 dc in the next dc, dc in each of the

next 2 dc, working in front of the next ch 3, long dc in the next ch 1 sp on

round 2, (dc in each of the next 2 dc, 3 dc in the next dc, dc in each of the

next 2 dc, working in front of the next ch 3, long dc in the next ch 1 sp on

round 2) 3 times; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. Fasten

off color B.

Round 5: Join color A with a sl st in any skipped ch 3 sp on round 3, ch 3 to

count as the first dc, work 4 more dc in the same sp, skip long dc, skip next

dc, sc in the next dc, ch 3, skip next dc, sc in the next dc, ch 3, skip next dc,

sc in the next dc, skip next dc, (work 5 dc in the next ch 3 sp on round 3,

skip long dc, skip next dc, sc in the next dc, ch 3, skip next dc, sc in the

next dc, ch 3, skip next dc, sc in the next dc, skip next dc) 3 times; join with

a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (See illustration)

Round 6: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the next dc, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc)

in the next dc, dc in each of the next 2 dc, (2 sc in the next ch 3 sp) 2

times, *dc in each of the next 2 dc, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in the next dc, dc in

each of the next 2 dc, (2 sc in the next ch 3 sp) 2 times,* Repeat from * to

* 2 times; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. Fasten off color

A.

Round 7: Join color B with a sl st in any ch 3 sp, ch 4 to count as the first

trc, work 8 more trc in the same sp for corner, skip next 4 dc, working in

front of the next 2 sc, work 3 dc in the next skipped dc on round 4, ch 1, 3

dc in the next skipped dc on round 4, *9 trc in the next ch 3 sp for corner,

skip next 4 dc, working in front of the next 2 sc, work 3 dc in the next

skipped dc on round 4, ch 1, 3 dc in the next skipped dc on round 4* Repeat

from * to * 2 times; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 4. Fasten

Round 8: Join color A with a sc in the 3rd trc of any corner, ch 3, skip next

trc, (sc, ch 3) twice in the next trc, skip next trc, sc in the next trc, working

behing round 7, trc in each of the next 6 skipped stitches on round 6, hdc in

the next ch 1 sp on round 7, trc in each of the next 6 skipped sts on round

6, *sc in the 3rd trc on the next corner, ch 3, skip next trc, (sc, ch 3) twice

in the next trc, skip next trc, sc in the next trc, working behing round 7, trc

in each of the next 6 skipped stitches on round 6, hdc in the next ch 1 sp on

round 7, trc in each of the next 6 skipped sts on round 6* Repeat from * to

* 2 times; join with a sl st to the first sc.

Round 9: Sl st into the next ch 3 sp, ch 1, sc in the same sp, 5 sc in the

next ch 3 sp for corner, sc in the next ch 3 sp, skip next sc, sc in each of the

next 6 trc, ch 1, skip next hdc, sc in each of the next 6 trc, skip next sc, * sc

in the next ch 3 sp, 5 sc in the next ch 3 sp for corner, sc in the next ch 3

sp, skip next sc, sc in each of the next 6 trc, ch 1, skip next hdc, sc in each

of the next 6 trc, skip next sc* Repeat from * to * 2 times; join with a sl st

to the first sc.

Round 10 for 6” square: Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in each of the next 2 sc,

3 sc in the next sc for corner, sc in each of the next 9 sc, sc in the next ch 1

sp, sc in each of the next 9 sc, *3 sc in the next sc for corner, sc in each of

the next 9 sc, sc in the next ch 1 sp, sc in each of the next 9 sc* Repeat

from * to * 1 time, 3 sc in the next sc for corner, sc in each of the next 9 sc,

sc in the next ch 1 sp, sc in each of the next 6 sc; join with a sl st to the

first sc. Fasten off color A.

Round 10 for 7” square: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in each of the next

2 sc, 5 dc in the next sc for corner, dc in each of the next 9 sc, dc in the

next ch 1 sp, dc in each of the next 9 sc, *5 dc in the next sc for corner, dc

in each of the next 9 sc, dc in the next ch 1 sp, dc in each of the next 9 sc*

Repeat from * to * 1 time, 5 dc in the next sc for corner, dc in each of the

next 9 sc, dc in the next ch 1 sp, dc in each of the next 6 sc; join with a sl st

to the top of the beginning ch 3. Fasten off color A.

Round 11: With color B, sc in each st around, working 3 sc in the center st

of each corner. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
