Materials:
-Any worsted yarn in the colours of red and black. (I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Cranberry and Black.)
-Crochet hook size G
-Two white 1″ buttons
-One black 1″ button
In Red Chain 11
Round 1) Skip first chain, *sc in next nine chains. 3 sc in tenth chain.* (You now have 12 sc). Turn your work so you are now crocheting the bottom of the row. Repeat from *to.* (You should now have 24 sc in the shape of an oval.)
For an I-phone 5 or 5s: Sc in the first 11 sc, 3 sc in the twelfth sc. (14 sc ) Repeat. (You should now have 28 sc.)
Rounds 2-9) Sc all around (24 sc in each round.). Change to black.
For I-phone 5 or 5s: Round 10- Sc all around before changing to black.
Now would be a good time to sew on the white buttons. I placed my first button on the front of case so it covered rows 6-8. For I-phone 5 or 5s: place them so they cover rows 7-9. Then I sewed the next button on allowing about a thumb’s distance between the two buttons (which was about three stitches over). When you sew on your buttons make sure your thread does not venture from the front to the back. This will cause your case to be sewn together and it will no longer a cozy place to put your phone. You could always pick the seam, but a seam ripper should not have to be used in a crocheting project.
Rounds 10-21 or 11-22) In black sc all around. (24 sc in each round.)
For I-phone 5 or 5s: Round 23- Sc all around.
Now working in rows:
(This will make a flap to close the case.)
Row 22 or 24) Sc in the first ten sc.
Row 23 or 25) Chain 1, skip first sc, sc in the next 7 sc.
Row 24 or 26) Chain 1, skip first sc, AC in the next 5 sc.
Row 25 or 27) Chain 6, sc in the last stitch.
(This makes a hole so a button can slide through it to keep the case closed.)
Row 26 or 28) 1 sc in each chain. (6 sc)
Fasten off.
Now all that is left is to sew the black button on to the front of the case. Put the flap down and alone the button with the hole. Before you sew the button on make sure it fits through the hole. If it does not you can either use a different button or add another chain or two to row 25 or 27.
Once you find a good position for the button sew it on. Again, be careful not to sew the case together.
Now place your phone inside and enjoy!
This pattern does not have to be used only to make Mickey Mouse. It is just a basic pattern for you to create any kind of cell phone case. It could be all one colour with lots of buttons sewn all over it, or each round could be a different colour, or it could be all white with three buttons down the front to make a snowman, or you can try making a Minnie Mouse or some of other Mickey’s friends. It could look however you imagine it.
