Finished Size: 7 inches

Materials: Small amounts of white and black yarn, size H crochet hook, tapestry needle.

French Knot: With Tapestry needle, draw yarn up through work in desired place, wrap yarn around needle 3 times, then pull needle back through work in same place..
Note: This square will require blocking.

Spider Shaping:

Rnd 1: With black, ch 4, 11 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with a sl st in top of beg. ch-4 (12 dc).
Rnd 2: Working in front lps for this rnd only, ch 1, 2 sc in same st as joining and in each st around, join. (24 sc)
Rnd 3 — Legs: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, * ch 6,sc in second ch from hook and in each remaining ch (5 sc), sc in next st on body rnd 2, ** rep from * to ** 3 times more; (4 legs made), sc in next 7 sc on body rnd 2, repeat from * to ** 4 times (4 legs made), sc in each remaining sc on body rnd 2 around to first leg made, join. Finish off black.

Web Square Shaping

Rnd 4: Working in unused back loops of rnd 1, Join white with a sl st in any loop, ch 5 (counts as first dc + ch-2), * sk next sc, dc in next lp, ch 2 around, join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg. ch 5.
Rnd 5: Ch 6 (counts as first dc + ch-3), * sk next cn-2 lp, dc in next dc, ch 3 around, join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg. ch 6.
Rnd 6: Ch 7 (counts as first dc + ch-4), * sk next cn-3 lp, dc in next dc, ch 4 around, join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg. ch 7.
Rnd 7: Ch 8 (counts as first dc + ch-5 lp), * sk next cn-4 lp, dc in next dc, ch 5 around, join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg. ch 8.

Eyes: With tapestry needle and white, work 2 french knots on front of spider between 4-leg groups to form eyes.
