PATTERN NOTES

Shrug is made of four pieces: a Large Rectangle, a Small Rectangle worked directly onto the Large Rectangle and two Armbands.

The Large Rectangle forms the lower back and fronts. The Small Rectangle forms the upper back.

The Armbands are worked separately and sewn to the armholes. This seam creates a more stable edge for the Armbands.

Sts are worked through the back loop to create the look of ribbing.

LARGE RECTANGLE

With 6mm hook, 48ch.

Row 1: (RS) Dc in second ch from hook and each ch across — 47 sts.

Row 2: 1ch, turn, working through back loops only, dc in each st across.

Rep row 2 until piece measures about 132cm/52in from beg. Fasten off.

SMALL RECTANGLE

Place two stitch markers along one long side of Large Rectangle, with each marker about 28cm/11in from a corner.

Row 1: (RS) With RS facing and 6mm hook, join yarn with sl st at first marker, 1ch, work 94dc evenly spaced across edge between markers.

Row 2: 1ch, turn, working through back loops only, dc in each st across.

Rep row 2 until Small Rectangle measures about 28cm/11in from row 1. Fasten off.

ARMBANDS

Make two

With 5mm hook, 10ch.

Row 1: (RS) Dc in second ch from hook and each ch across — 9 sts.

Row 2: 1ch, turn, working through back loops only, dc in each st across.

Rep row 2 until piece measures about 38cm/15in from beg.

Do not fasten off.

Joining Row: Hold first and last rows together, matching sts, 1ch, turn, working through both thicknesses, sl st in each st across to join piece into a ring. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Following Diagram, fold Shrug, matching A to B and C to D.

Beg at point AB, sew side seam for about 9cm/3 1/2in, leaving 19cm/7 1/2in open for armhole. Rep on opposite side, beg at point CD.

OUTER EDGING

With RS facing and 6mm hook, join yarn with sl st anywhere along outside edge of Shrug, 1ch, work dc evenly spaced around entire outside edge; join with sl st in first dc. Fasten off.

ARMHOLE EDGING

With RS facing and 6mm hook, join yarn with sl st in armhole edge at side seam, 1ch, work dc evenly spaced around armhole; join with sl st in first dc.
