Pattern instructions

The sole is worked in spirals; do not join at the end of each round and do not turn. When the sole is completed, yarn A is fastened off and yarn B is joined into the same stitch to make the upper.

Sole (make 2)

With yarn A, chain 18 (20, 22).

Rnd 1: 3 dc in 3rd ch from hook, 10 (12, 14) dc, 4 tr, 5 tr into last ch, pm in top of third tr (remove and replace this marker on subsequent rnds as indicated), do not turn but work into the opposite side of the foundation ch for the rem sts, 4 tr, 10 (12, 14) dc, 2 dc in the same st as the initial 3 dc. Do not join and do not turn, place a second marker in the last st (remove and replace on subsequent rnds to mark the last st). 38 (42, 46) sts

Rnd 2: 3 htr, dc to first st before the first marker, 2 htr into the next st, 3 tr into the next st (remove and replace marker in the centre tr), 2 htr into the next st, dc to the last 2 sts, 2 htr, do not join or turn, place the marker in the last htr. 42 (46, 50) sts

Rnd 3: 3 htr into the next st, 2 htr into the next st, 3 htr, dc to 2 sts before the marker, 1 htr, 2 tr into the next st, rm, 3 tr into the next st (replace marker in the centre tr), 2 tr into the next st, 1 htr, dc to the last 4 sts, 3 htr, 2 htr in the next st. Do not join and do not turn. 50 (54, 58) sts

Rnd 4: 1 htr, 3 htr into the next st, 1 htr in the next st, 2 htr in the next st, 3 htr, dc to 6 sts before the marker, 3 htr, (2 htr into the next st) 2 times, 2 tr into the next st, rm, 3 tr into the next st (replace the marker in the centre st), 2 tr into the next st, (2 htr into the next st) 2 times, 3 htr, dc to the last 4 sts, 3 htr, 2 htr in the next st. Do not join and do not turn. 62 (66, 70) sts

Sl st into the next 3 sts, fasten off A.

Upper (make 2)

Join B into the last sl st.

Rnd 1: Dc around, join with a sl st to the top of the first dc.

Rnd 2: 1 ch (does not count as st), dc in BLO around, join to the top of first dc.

Rnd 3: 2 ch (counts as first htr), 6 (7, 8) htr, 16 dc, 2 (3, 4) htr, (htr2tog) 2 times, htr3tog, pm to indicate centre toe st, [htr2tog] 2 times, 2 (3, 4) htr, dc to the last 8 (9, 10) sts, 8 (9, 10) htr, join to the top of the first htr. 56 (60, 64) sts

Rnd 4: 1 ch (does not count as a st), 1 dc in the same sp as 1 ch, 2 dc, [dc2tog] 3 times, dc to the last 8 sts, [dc2tog] 3 times, dc to end (remove and replace marker when you reach it), join with a sl st to the top of the first dc. 50 (54, 58) sts

Rnd 5:1 ch (does not count as st), dc to 7 sts before the marker, 4 htr, htr2tog, htr3tog, (remove and replace marker), htr2tog, 4 htr, dc to end, join to the top of the first dc. 46 (50, 54) sts

Rnd 6: 1 ch (does not count as a st), 3 dc, [dc2tog] 2 times, dc to 3 sts before the marked st, htr2tog, htr3tog, htr2tog, dc to the last 5 sts, [dc2tog] 2 times, dc to end. Join to top of first dc. 38 (42, 46) sts

SHOE SIZES 5 & 6 ONLY

Rnd 7: 2 ch (counts as st), htr to first st before marker, htr3tog, htr to end. 40 (44) sts all sizes

Rnd 8: Dc around.

Rnd 9 (optional for narrow feet):

Sl st around.

Fasten off the yarn and weave in ends. Block lightly by spraying with water and stuffing with cotton to create the shape.

Hints & tips

These slippers are designed to be snug at first because the wool will 'give' with wear. If in doubt about which size to make, opt for the smaller size.
