Crochet Crocodile Baby Bib

Crocodile Baby Bib Pattern
I (5.5 mm) hook and H (5 mm) hook for edging
1-3/4 oz / 80 yards of Cotton Yarn (Sugar’n Cream Pinky Stripes used)
Baby bib measures 7 inches wide x 7 inches long with 9 inch ties.
Directions:
Row 1
With I hook, Ch 18 loosely. Dc in 3rd chain from hook.
*Ch 2, Skip 2 Ch, 2 Dc* repeat until the end of the chain. (6 2-Dc sets)
Row 2 (3 Scale Row)
Ch 1. Turning your work so you are on the side to work down the first post.
Work 5 Dc down the first post, Ch 1, now turn your work over so you can work up the next Dc post. Work 5 Dc up the second post. This is the first Scale.
Tip: Pull the Scale fully on the right side flat. Make sure your Scale points are at the bottom along your starting chain. You will be working the Scales from right to left if you are a right-handed crocheter.
Skip next set of 2-Dc’s. Crochet Scale around the 3rd set of 2-Dc posts.
Skip next set of 2-Dc’s. Crochet Scale around the 5th set of 2-Dc posts.
Continue in pattern to end of row. Sl St into last Dc of last set of row. Turn.
Row 3 (4-Scale Base Row)
Ch 3, Dc in same st to create a 2-Dc set, Ch 2.
2 Dc into center hole of the last Scale you crocheted. Ch 2.
2 Dc between the next Scales. (Make sure you crochet thru the front between the complete front Scale space.)
Ch 2.
Continue in pattern to the end of the row. End row with 2 Dc into 2nd st of the Scale on prior row to create a 2-Dc set at end of row to match other end for 4 Scale base row.
Ch 1. Turn.
Row 4 (4-Scale Row)
Crochet the Scale pattern around the first set of 2-Dc’s by working *5 DC down first post, Ch 1, work 5 DC around 2nd post. Skip 2nd set of Dc’s, crochet the Scale pattern around the next set of Dc’s and continue in pattern to the end of the row for 4 scales on row. Ch 2, Turn.

Row 5 (3-Scale Base Row)
Skip 1st center Scale hole, *2 Dc between next set of Dc’s, Ch 2, 2 Dc in center of next Scale* repeat between* to end of row. Ch 2, turn.
Row 6 (3-Scale Row)
Skip over first 2-Dc set and work *5 DC down first post, Ch 1, work 5 DC around 2nd post. * Repeat between* to end. Sl St into the top Dc st at end of row. Turn.
Row 7 (4-Scale Base Row)
Ch 3, Dc in same st to create a 2-Dc set, Ch 2.
2 Dc into center hole of the last Scale you crocheted. Ch 2.
2 Dc between the next Scales. Ch 2. (7 2-Dc sets)
Continue in pattern to the end of the row. End row with 2 Dc into last Dc to create a 2-Dc set at end of row to match other end for 4 Scale base row.
Ch 1. Turn.

Repeat row 4 (4 Scales)

Repeat row 5 (3-Scale Base)

Repeat row 5 (3 Scales. Finish off at end of row 14.
Edging & Ties
Row 1
Using H hook now, attach yarn at front right side corner at top right. Sc across top edge evenly.
Row 2
Ch 3, turn. Dc in next 6 sts, then Sl St in each st down to the last 7 sts. Dc in each of the last 7 sts. Turn.
Row 3
Ch 33 for tie, turn and Sl St down chain back to beg. Now working across top front edge, Dc in next 4 sts, HDC in next st, Sc in each st down to last 5 sts. (Work the Sc stitch under the Sl ST of prior row in the space under the stitch.)
Work Hdc in next st, then Dc in each of the last 4 sts.
Ch 33 for other tie, turn and Sl St down chain to beg. Sl St into last Dc at corner of bib and finish off.
